
UNIZIK Female Football Team Sustains Winning Run Ahead of FASU Games
The impressive preparations of the female football team of Nnamdi Azikiwe University for the forthcoming Fédération Africaine du Sport Universitaire Games continued on Sunday with another remarkable victory recorded against Awka Angels FC.
In the highly competitive preparatory fixture played at Awka Stadium on June 14, 2026, Team UNIZIK defeated Awka Angels FC by a lone goal to nil, further strengthening its confidence ahead of the continental tournament scheduled to take place in Cairo, Egypt.
The decisive goal was scored in the 72nd minute by Vikky, whose brilliant strike sealed yet another memorable victory for the university side. The encounter was intense and tactical, with both teams displaying quality football, but the UNIZIK ladies once again demonstrated resilience, discipline, and growing maturity in their style of play.
The latest triumph adds to the team’s growing list of impressive results in recent warm-up matches as preparations intensify for the FASU Games.
Reacting to the victory, the Acting Director of Sports, Mrs. Anthonia Chukwudi, expressed delight at the team’s consistency and determination, noting that the series of victories reflects the hard work, commitment, and technical preparations being put in place ahead of the competition in Egypt.
She also once again appreciated the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Ugochukwu Bond Stanley Anyaehie, for his unwavering support towards sports development in the university, describing his encouragement and commitment to the welfare of student-athletes as exceptional and highly motivating.
