UNIZIK holds “OHAZURUME IGBO” festival


The Vice-Chancellor, Nnamdi Azikiwe University Awka, Prof. Joseph E. Ahaneku, FAS; the Directorate of Igbo Village & Centre for African Civilization (IVACAC) and the entire University Community, cordially invite the general public to her “Ohazurume Igbo” festival, fund raising and awards, an event which is geared towards advancing the Igbo course.

The fund raising is for the building project of Igbo Village complex and Obis for Igbo heroes of the past. This epoch event which will be chaired by the Obi of Onitsha, HRM Nnaemeka Alfred Achebe, MFR (Agbogidi), has the President General of Ohaneze Ndigbo (Worldwide), Chief John Nnia Nwodo (Ike Ukehe) as the maiden Ohazurume Igbo lecturer.

The Governors and traditional rulers across the South-East are expected to attend as special guests and guests of honour respectively.

The past Igbo heroes to be honoured in the project include Dr. Nnamdi Azikiwe, Dim Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu, Dr. Alex Ekwueme, Prof. Kenneth Dike, Gen. Aguiyi Ironsi, Rev. Fr. Iwene Tansi, Barr. Sam Mbakwe PhD and Prof. Chinua Achebe. Others include Chief Jerome Udoji, Dr. Pius Okigbo, Dr. F.C Ogbalu, King Jaja of Opobo, Chief Mike Okpala (Power Mike), Dr. M.I Okpara, Dr. Akanu Ibiam and Prof. Chike Obi.

The event is slated for Wednesday 11th April, 2018 at the University Convocation arena by 10am.

This will be preceded by an Exhibition of Igbo Civilization on Thursday, 12th April.
