UNIZIK Hosts 123rd Inaugural Lecture on Healthy Residential Design.

Nnamdi Azikiwe University has hosted its 123rd inaugural lecture, delivered by Prof. (Arc). Austin Madubuchi Ezezue of the Department of Architecture, Faculty of Environmental Sciences, on April 9, 2026.

The lecture, held at the Chief Zephaniah Building, Faculty of Social Sciences, was chaired by the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Ugochukwu Bond Stanley Anyaehie, who commended the lecturer’s academic contributions and urged participants to translate scholarly knowledge into practical everyday use.

Speaking on the topic, “Residential Buildings: Boxes of Death We Live In – Any Hope?”, Prof. Ezezue examined the strong link between residential environments and human health. He noted that growing research shows indoor environments play a critical role in shaping well-being, lifestyle, and overall health outcomes, particularly through air quality, spatial design, and usage patterns.

The professor highlighted the paradox of modern housing—serving as both essential shelter and potential health hazard—and called for urgent improvements in building standards, healthier architectural practices, and increased awareness of environmental impacts within living spaces.

The event drew a distinguished audience, including principal officers, staff, and students. Among those present was the University Bursar, Gozie Egwuatu, alongside members of the academic community.
