





UNIZIK Management Appreciates Bank of Industry as VC Commissions New Hostel Block.
The Management of Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka, has expressed profound appreciation to the Bank of Industry for the construction and donation of a 30-bedroom student hostel to the University.
The hostel was officially commissioned on Friday, February 20, 2026, during a ceremony held at the permanent site of the College of Health Sciences, Akamili, Nnewi.
Speaking at the event, the Managing Director of the Bank of Industry, Dr. Olasupo Olusi, who was represented by the Executive Director, Mallam Omar Shekarau, described the commissioning as a divinely inspired milestone. He emphasized that beyond providing financial support through loans, the Bank remains committed to contributing meaningfully to societal development by investing in projects that positively impact lives.
Mallam Shekarau commended the University leadership for their vision and collaboration, and appreciated the consultant and project team for delivering the hostel project within record time.
In his remarks, the Chief Medical Director, Prof. Joseph Ugboajah, represented by Prof. Ogo Ezejiofor, highlighted the importance of strong synergy between the University and the Teaching Hospital. He described the hostel project as a significant infrastructural advancement that will enhance academic and clinical training, noting that infrastructure remains a critical driver of institutional development.
Also speaking, a representative of the Akamili community, Mr. Caleb Okekeobi, expressed gratitude to the Bank of Industry for its generous intervention. He further appealed for additional support in addressing community challenges such as access roads and erosion control.
The Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Ugochukwu Bond Stanley Anyaehie, in his address, expressed sincere appreciation to the Bank of Industry for its thoughtful gesture. He noted that the hostel represents the second major project commissioned under his administration within two months, and expressed optimism that more developmental projects would follow.
Providing background on the project, the Project Manager of QS Consult, Mr. John Ije, assured stakeholders that the facility was constructed to meet durable standards and serve future generations of students.
The highlight of the ceremony was the official ribbon-cutting and unveiling of commemorative plaques in honor of the Vice-Chancellor, the Managing Director of the Bank of Industry, and the benefactor of the project, Chief Chukwuemeka Nzewi (Eziokwubundu Nnewi).
Members of the Vice-Chancellor’s entourage included Prof. Hilda Osisioma, Ag. Deputy Vice-Chancellor; Prof. Pius V.C. Okoye, Director, Business School and Council Member; Prof. Stella Anasi, University Librarian; Prof. JKC Emejulu, Provost, College of Health Sciences; Chief Ken Chukwurah, Chief Safety Officer; Prof. Kingsley Ubaoji, Dean, Student Affairs; and Mr. Njelita Louis, Ag. Public Relations Officer.
