UNIZIK Music Department Trains Bluepoint School Pupils in Cultural Dance.

The Nnamdi Azikiwe University (UNIZIK), Awka, through its Department of Music, has partnered with Bluepoint Schools, Awka, to train pupils of the school in cultural dance as part of efforts to promote Nigerian cultural heritage among young learners.

The partnership culminated in a colourful cultural event held at the school on Tuesday, 10th March 2026, where the “Chibuzo” Dance Troupe of Bluepoint Schools, comprising Senior and Junior troupes, was officially unveiled.

The dance troupes were trained by two Year Two students of the Department of Music and members of the University’s “Oyomma” Dance Troupe, Miss Esther Udeozor and Miss Phyna Obiora, over four months as part of the collaborative initiative.

Speaking at the event, the Head of the Department of Music, Dr. Ikedimma Okeke, said the Department remains committed to service to society in line with the vision of the Vice-Chancellor of the University. He noted that such partnerships help to strengthen the bond between the University and the wider community while promoting indigenous cultural values.

In her remarks, the Proprietress of Bluepoint Schools, Dr. Nkoli Ejesi, expressed appreciation to the University and the Department of Music for the initiative. She commended the pupils for their quick assimilation of the dance rhythms and disclosed that cultural dance has now been incorporated into the school’s curriculum.

Dr. Ejesi was formerly the Headmistress of UNIZIK Primary School and later served as a Lecturer in the Department of Educational Management and Policy of the University before her retirement, after which she founded Bluepoint Schools.

The event featured impressive cultural dance performances by the pupils, demonstrating the success of the training and the growing appreciation of cultural arts among the young learners.
