As University Staff Advisers strategise for effective service delivery

Nnamdi Azikiwe University is partnering with the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) to train university health workers towards improving standards.

Vice Chancellor, Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Prof. Ugochukwu Bond Stanley Anyaehie made this disclosure in a remark while addressing the University Staff Advisers Forum during their meeting at the Chisco Institute of Transport Building Hall during the weekend.

The Vice Chancellor who said he was elated being in the midst of the staff advisers, while answering questions raised by a Staff Adviser on the National Health Insurance Authority issues as it concerns student beneficiaries in the university, also said the administration is working out strategies to streamline and decentralize the activities of the Health Maintenance Organisations (HMOs) in the university in such a manner that reflects the multi campus structures of UNIZIK in Nnewi, Agulu and Awka campuses so that the students can get their due benefits in the scheme.

Earlier, the Dean of Students Affairs, Prof. Kingsley Ubaoji told the Vice Chancellor that the meeting of the Staff Advisers was convened to put the Advisers on notice, to get them more acquainted with their roles, of what to expect and how to respond to situations especially now that politics and general elections are around the corner in Nigeria.

Former Dean of Students Affairs in the University, Prof Stan Udedi appreciated the Vice Chancellor for visiting the gathering noting that, his presence in the meeting and clarifying certain positions as it affects the standard operating procedures for all staff advisers at all levels.

He said there is an urgent need to articulate the specific roles and functions of the staff advisers, put them down in writing and get the approval of the Vice Chancellor for it to serve as a working document, thereby saving the Staff Advisers from any form of harassment by the Heads of Departments (HoDs).

Another former Dean of Students Affairs and former INEC Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC), Prof. Emeka Ezeonu also attended the meeting among others.
