UNIZIK Secures Membership of Global Maritime Silk Road Universities Consortium, Expands International Academic Partnerships
Nnamdi Azikiwe University has recorded another significant milestone in its internationalisation efforts with its formal admission into the Consortium of the 21st Century Maritime Silk Road Universities, a distinguished global network of higher institutions committed to promoting international collaboration in education, research, innovation, and cultural exchange.
The achievement represents a major advancement in the University’s strategic drive towards global relevance under the leadership of the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Ugochukwu Bond Stanley Anyaehie, whose administration has continued to prioritise international partnerships and academic excellence.
Membership of the consortium provides UNIZIK with access to collaborative engagements involving 74 universities across Asia and Europe. The development is expected to facilitate opportunities in joint research initiatives, faculty and student exchange programmes, technology transfer, capacity building, and the development of international academic programmes.
As part of its expanding global engagement, the University is also exploring strategic partnerships in Artificial Intelligence (AI) with universities in China, Turkey, and Italy. These proposed collaborations are expected to enhance the institution’s capacity in digital innovation, advanced research, emerging technologies, and future-oriented learning.
The development further strengthens the activities of the University’s Confucius Institute by creating broader opportunities for language education, cultural exchange, international scholarships, and deeper interaction with global academic communities.
The University noted that the latest achievement reflects its growing international profile and reinforces its commitment to positioning UNIZIK as a globally competitive institution capable of connecting its students and scholars with world-class academic and research networks.
