




UNIZIK VC Pays Homage to HRM Igwe Kenneth Orizu III
The Vice-Chancellor of Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka, Prof. Ugochukwu Bond Stanley Anyaehie, on Friday, February 20, 2026, paid a courtesy visit to the Traditional Ruler of Nnewi, HRM Igwe Kenneth Orizu III, alongside members of the University’s management team.
Prof. Anyaehie apologized for the delay in paying homage, explaining that it was due to the demands of assuming office as a new Vice-Chancellor. He expressed appreciation to the revered monarch for his enduring support and the cordial relationship between the University and the Nnewi royal institution. The Vice-Chancellor noted that the visit coincided with the commissioning of the 30-bedroom hostel donated to the University by the Bank of Industry, and deemed it important to pay respects to the monarch.
Speaking during the visit, the representative of the Managing Director of the Bank of Industry, Mallam Omar Shekarau, thanked God for the good health of Igwe Orizu. He emphasized that beyond providing loans, the Bank remains committed to initiatives that positively impact lives. He also appreciated Chief Nzewi Chukwuemeka for facilitating the hostel project and commended the peaceful atmosphere within the University.
Welcoming the delegation on behalf of the monarch, Prince Dr. Obi Orizu, the first son of Igwe Orizu III, expressed delight at the visit and presented a historical overview of the Orizu dynasty and the kingship throne of Nnewi. He highlighted the monarch’s immense contributions to the University, including the donation of the Igwe Orizu III ICT Centre and a significant portion of land for the University’s development. He prayed for God’s continued blessings upon the monarch for his enduring goodwill toward the institution.
A major highlight of the visit was the presentation of commemorative signage by Igwe Orizu III, through Prince Obi Orizu, to the Managing Director of the Bank of Industry and the Vice-Chancellor.
In his vote of thanks, the Provost of the College of Health Sciences, Prof. J.K.C. Emejulu, expressed profound gratitude to the Bank of Industry for the hostel donation and to Igwe Orizu III for the warm reception and continued support.
Members of the Bank of Industry delegation included Mrs. Theodora Amaechi (Deputy Head, Public Relations), Hadiza Onyenwumi (Group Head, Brands and Transformation), Andrew Oghomi (Divisional Head, South-East), Amaechi Akwani (Head, LE Coordinating Unit), and Tosin Mfor (Group Head, External and Investor Relations).
Members of the University management present included the Ag. Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Hilda Osisioma; Prof. Pius Okoye, Director, Business School and Council Member; Prof. J.K.C. Emejulu, Provost, College of Health Sciences; Prof. Kingsley Ubaoji, Dean of Student Affairs; Prof. Stella Anasi, University Librarian; Chief Ken Chukwurah, Chief Safety Officer; Mr. Louis Njelita, Ag. Public Relations Officer; and personal aides of the Vice-Chancellor.
