The Vice-Chancellor of Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka, Prof. Bond Ugochukwu Anyaehie, visited the Ezeajughi family in Awgbu, Orumba North Local Government Area of Anambra State, on January 6, 2026, to offer his condolences.

The visit followed a memorial service held at St. Theresa’s Catholic Church in Awgbu, where well-wishers from various backgrounds gathered to pay their last respects to the late Lady Christiana Mgbeoye Ezeajughi (nee Ezegbudo). During the service, the Catholic Bishop of Ekwulobia Diocese, His Eminence Bishop Paulinus Ezeokafor, emphasised the importance of living a virtuous life, describing that the deceased embodied peace and love.

Anambra State’s Executive Governor, Prof. Chukwuma Charles Soludo, CFR, also attended the service and expressed his sorrow over the loss of a beloved parent. He comforted the Ezeajughi family, stating, “The joy is that their late mother lived long enough for them to celebrate her this much.” He further encouraged mutual understanding and support among individuals during times of loss.

Lady Christiana’s remains were later interred at her family compound, as friends, family members, and well-wishers shared stories of her commendable virtues.

Among the notable attendees were former Anambra State Governor Dr Chris Ngige, Speaker of the Anambra State House of Assembly, Jon. Somtochukwu Udeze, Mayor of Orumba Hon. Barr. Casmir Nwafor, Provost of Nwafor Orizu College of Education, Dr Justina Chinyere Anyadiegwu, Vice-Chancellor of Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University, Prof. Kate Omenugha, FNIPR, and Vicar-General of Aguata Diocese, Rev. Fr. Prof. Boniface Chiegboka.

Lady Christiana Mgbeoye Ezeajughi was the mother of the Chief of Staff to the Executive Governor of Anambra State, Hon. Ernest Ezeajughi, and the mother-in-law of Prof. Tracie Utoh-Ezeajughi, a member of the Theatre and Film Studies and Council member at Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka.
