









UNIZIK Vice-Chancellor Chairs 7th Dr. Chinedu Umeadi Foundation Science Quiz Awards, Reaffirms Commitment to Science Education
The Vice-Chancellor of Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Prof. Ugochukwu Bond Stanley Anyaehie, has reaffirmed the University’s commitment to promoting science education and nurturing the next generation of innovators, describing science and technology as indispensable drivers of national development.
Prof. Anyaehie asserted this while chairing the 7th Edition of the Dr. Chinedu Umeadi Foundation Science Quiz Award Ceremony for Secondary Schools in Anambra State, held at the Anambra State Universal Basic Education Board (ASUBEB) Headquarters, Awka.
In his opening remarks, the Vice-Chancellor welcomed participants to the event and commended the Dr. Chinedu Umeadi Foundation for sustaining an initiative that inspires academic excellence and encourages young learners to pursue science-related disciplines. He urged the participating students to remain focused, disciplined and committed to their academic pursuits, assuring them that Nnamdi Azikiwe University looks forward to welcoming many of them as future students.
Earlier, the Director of Science and Technology, Post Primary Schools Service Commission (PPSSC), Mrs. Nneka Odilimuo, described the competition as a strategic platform for promoting scientific curiosity, innovation and academic excellence among secondary school students. She praised the Founder of the Foundation, Dr. Chinedu Umeadi, for consistently investing in science education and equipping students for technology-driven assessments through the use of Computer-Based Testing (CBT). She disclosed that no fewer than 350 students participated in this year’s competition and encouraged schools to intensify efforts towards improving science education and students’ academic performance.
Also speaking, the Executive Chairman of the Anambra State Universal Basic Education Board (ASUBEB), Dr. Justina Anyadiegwu, lauded the Foundation for complementing the Anambra State Government’s efforts in advancing quality education. She noted that the initiative aligns with the state’s vision of providing inclusive and accessible education, adding that partnerships between public institutions and private organisations remain essential for nurturing future leaders and promoting educational excellence.
The ceremony featured the presentation of awards to outstanding students in the junior and senior categories, state finalists, as well as motivational awards to best-performing schools and principals in recognition of their exceptional contributions to science education.
Dignitaries at the event included the Founder and President of the Dr. Chinedu Umeadi Foundation, Dr. Chinedu Umeadi; the Executive Secretary of the Post Primary Schools Service Commission (PPSSC), Mrs. Ngozi Bernadine Anagor; the Education Coordinator of the Dr. Chinedu Umeadi Foundation, Rev. Sr. Miriam Rona Onwuadi; alongside principals, teachers, parents, guardians and students from across Anambra State.
