UNIZIK Vice-Chancellor Hosts TETFund Team on Centre of Excellence Inspection.
The Vice-Chancellor of Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka, Prof. Ugochukwu Bond Stanley Anyaehie, on Friday, 27th February, 2026, received a delegation from the Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFund) on an inspection visit to the University’s Centre of Excellence.
Earlier in his opening remarks, the Director of the Centre of Excellence, Prof. Aribodor Dennis, briefed the Vice-Chancellor on the purpose of the team’s visit, noting that the delegation had been on the ground since the previous day carrying out their assignment.
Speaking during the visit, the Team Leader, Abduljibirin Faisal, thanked the Vice-Chancellor for the warm reception. He explained that the team’s task was to assess the existing structures, facilities, programmes, and manpower at the Centre. He observed that, based on what they had seen, the Centre was yet to fully meet the standards expected of a Centre of Excellence, and urged the University Management to intensify efforts toward repositioning it.
He further disclosed that the Centre operates in three segments — Agriculture, Biomedical, and Trans-Engineering — each supervised by designated coordinators. The Team Leader also mentioned that the Director had earlier lamented that he had not accessed any procurement since assuming office.
In his response, the Vice-Chancellor outlined his administration’s plans, including the provision of scholarships to deserving students, emphasizing that the University is positioned as a driver of positive change. He assured the delegation that deliberate steps would be taken to significantly improve the state of the Centre before their next visit.
In his vote of thanks, the Sub-Dean/Deputy Director of TETFund–BEATS, Prof. Malachy C. Ugwu, appreciated the Vice-Chancellor for the hospitality extended to the team and expressed confidence in the University’s resolve to transform the Centre.
Other members of the delegation included Prof. Solomon Nwigbo (Co-Coordinator, TCE-BEATS, Trans-Engineering), Prof. FBC Okoye (Co-Coordinator, TCE-BEATS Biomedical), Prof. C.I. Ebenebe (Co-Coordinator, TCE-BEATS Agriculture), Okeke Martina, Grace Okoli-Emmanuel, Dr. Iquo Okon Mkpa, and Prof. E.O. Farombi.
