The Vice-Chancellor, of Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Prof. Charles Okechukwu Esimone, has taken yet another giant step toward positioning the Alumni of UNIZIK to take pride of place in the growth and development of the University. This was exhibited recently through the commencement of construction of a gigantic Alumni building complex.
Performing the foundation laying ceremony, the Vice-Chancellor expressed appreciation to God for making the project and day come to reality. He commended the leadership of the Association for heeding his prolonged call for Alumni presence and contribution to the growth and development of the great institution named after the foremost nationalist, Dr Nnamdi Azikiwe.
Professor Esimone averred that Alumni bodies are the driving force for the development of prominent academic institutions globally and her contributions should be encouraged in Nigeria.
The Vice-Chancellor equally commended the genuine contributions of the Council member representing Convocation, Professor Meshach Umenweke and the Coordinator, Alumni liaisons, Dr Nwachukwu Obiako to the blossoming unity and progress between the University and the Alumni association.
He further assured the Association of the continued commitment of the University Management towards the actualization of the landmark project.
In his remarks, the national president of the alumni association, Engr. Kingsley Nwafor expressed delight at the commencement of the project at the University. He further reiterated the commitment of the Association to align with the Vice-Chancellor’s vision for project 200.
Earlier in a remark, the Secretary of the Board of Directors of the Alumni Association, Rtd. Captain Casimir Nwafor appreciated the Vice-Chancellor for being resolute and committed to the actualization of the project and further assured of the maximum cooperation of the Alumni association in moving the University to greater heights.
In his remark, the Chairman, UNIZIK Alumni Complex Building Committee and Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Administration), Prof. Joseph Ikechebelu assured of the completion of the gigantic structure in a record time. Dr Ikechebelu reiterated the commitment of the University Management led by Prof. Esimone to ensuring the project is completed speedily.
Also in a remark, Dr Obiakor disclosed that the ultra-modern complex would house the Alumni secretariat, an auditorium, and guest rooms, among other facilities.
Present at the event includes the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academic), Prof. Frederick Odibo, Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Administration), Professor Joseph Ikechebelu, the University Registrar, Barr. Philomena Okoye, University Librarian, Dr Stella Anasi, and the University Bursar, Mr Gozie Egwuatu.
Others include some internal members of the University Council, University Management, union leaders in the University, members of the National Executive Council of the Alumni Association and chairmen of various branches of the Association across Nigeria.
