The Vice-Chancellor of Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Prof Charles Okechukwu Esimone has been bestowed with the title of ‘Honorary Professor of the Academic Union of Oxford” for developing a vector-based antiviral screening technique which has revolutionized the treatment of HIV globally. The award was conferred on him in a virtual ceremony which was held before the Oxford debate that took place on the 25th of June, 2021.
Prof Charles Esimone was one of the 7 expert speakers that took part in this edition of Oxford Debate. During the same pre-debate award ceremony, the VC was also bestowed with the honorary title of “The Name in Science and Education” for the outstanding work he has done in education and science by The Socrates Committee. The description on the award plaque reads : By the decision of the Socrates Committee in accordance with Provision, Paragraphs 1, 2, name of Prof Charles Esimone has been recorded in the World register of Outstanding Scientists and Educationalists.
The Vice Chancellor was still presenting his speech virtually in his office when the award package including Oxford academic gown, the plaques, certificates etc arrived from Oxford University through DHL.
