The 2025/2026 Nnamdi Azikiwe University Matriculation ceremony, marking a pivotal moment in the academic journey of new students, took place on Friday, 13th February, 2026. The faculty-based ceremony, held simultaneously across all 17 faculties, embodied the university’s commitment to fostering a supportive community.

The Deans of some faculties represented the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Ugochukwu Bond Stanley Anyaehie, while the Faculty Administrative Officers represented the Registrar, Dr. Chinenye Gloria Okeke.

In his address, the Vice-Chancellor warmly welcomed the students, congratulating them on overcoming the challenges of securing a place at one of Nigeria’s most sought-after universities. He emphasized the significance of this milestone, urging them to seize the opportunities ahead. The Vice-Chancellor outlined his vision for the university, centered on a three-pronged strategy: prioritizing students’ welfare, driving innovation, and supporting research and community service. He highlighted the university’s academic programmes, comprising 17 faculties with many accredited courses, as well as its global linkages with renowned universities in the United States, China, Europe and Africa. The Vice-Chancellor emphasized the importance of responsibilities and expectations, encouraging students to fulfill their obligations to the university, their families, and themselves. He stressed the need for academic integrity, regular attendance, and a commitment to excellence.

Earlier in her address, the Registrar, Dr. Chinenye Gloria Okeke, welcomed the students and congratulated them on their achievement, urging them to familiarize themselves with the university’s regulations and attend lectures regularly. She encouraged them to seek help when needed and remain focused on their academic goals.

Also, the Registrar of JAMB, Prof. Ishaq Olanrewaju Oloyede, represented by the JAMB State Coordinator, Dr. Mrs. Diana Obiano, extended congratulations to the newly admitted students, characterizing their admission as the initial step in a pivotal academic journey. In her remarks, she exhorted the students to maintain focus and discipline, encouraging them to adopt effective study habits and work diligently. She cautioned that the decisions made during their university years could significantly impact or impede their future prospects and advised them to make informed, responsible choices. Furthermore, she urged the students to demonstrate diligence and a commitment to excellence, reminding them that they serve as ambassadors for Nnamdi Azikiwe University and, by extension, Nigeria, in all their endeavors.

The occasion was marked by a procession, the declaration of loyalty, and the administering of the oath on secret cults, where students pledged to uphold the university’s values. The ceremony concluded with the formal admittance of the new students into Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka.
