VICE-CHANCELLOR’S INTERVENTION TRANSFORMS REGISTRY RECORDS UNIT, STAFF APPLAUD IMPROVED WORK ENVIRONMENT.
The Records Unit of the Registry at Nnamdi Azikiwe University (UNIZIK), Awka, has witnessed a remarkable transformation following the timely intervention of the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Ugochukwu Bond Stanley Anyaehie, with staff expressing satisfaction over the significantly improved working conditions.
In separate interviews, staff members commended the Vice-Chancellor for his proactive leadership in addressing long-standing challenges that previously hindered productivity within the unit.
A Principal Executive Officer, Mrs. Imo Ebere Blessing, expressed gratitude to God and the Vice-Chancellor for the positive changes introduced. She recalled that upon her redeployment to the unit last year, the office environment was not too conducive due to obsolete equipment and inadequate furniture, laptops, and computers. She noted, however, that the situation has changed remarkably, as renovation works commenced promptly and were completed within a short period.
Mrs. Blessing further disclosed that the Vice-Chancellor personally monitored the progress of the project at a point, a gesture she described as a clear demonstration of his commitment to staff welfare and institutional development. According to her, the unit now operates in a conducive environment that enhances efficiency and productivity.
In a similar vein, another Principal Executive Officer, Mr. Okoye Ofoma David, observed that the improved office environment has positively impacted staff morale, making work less strenuous and easing the burden of long working hours.
Also speaking, the Deputy Registrar (Records), Mrs. Raluchukwu Ifeanyi-Njelita, revealed that the transformation of the unit commenced shortly after the Vice-Chancellor assumed office. She explained that during an earlier visit, he assessed the condition of the unit and pledged to collaborate with the Alumni Association to reposition it, boost its revenue-generating capacity, and enhance the University’s image. She affirmed that this commitment has since been fulfilled, resulting in the visible improvements currently being experienced.
On digitalization, Mrs. Raluchukwu described the process as gradual but promising, expressing optimism that it would soon lead to seamless operations, particularly in transcript processing. She, however, identified delays in the submission of detailed academic records by departments as a major challenge affecting efficiency.
To address this, she disclosed that the Vice-Chancellor has engaged a firm to digitize students’ academic records through scanning and uploading, a development expected to significantly improve access to information and operational efficiency.
Meanwhile, the Registrar, Dr. Chinenye Gloria Okeke, has charged staff of the unit to redouble their efforts and justify the University’s substantial investment in improving their work environment. She urged them to align with the transformative vision of the Vice-Chancellor towards building a more service-oriented UNIZIK.
It was further gathered that other units within the Registry, including Senate, Examinations, and Personnel, are scheduled to undergo a similar transformation in line with the University’s ongoing reform agenda.
