“YOU ARE IMPORTANT TO US,” SAYS DEAN AS THE FACULTY OF SOCIAL SCIENCES INDUCTS NEW STUDENTS

The Dean of the Faculty of Social Sciences, Professor Michael Ezenwa, has reaffirmed the Faculty’s commitment to student development, declaring that “you are important to us” during the Faculty’s 2026 induction ceremony for newly admitted students.

The ceremony, held at the Zephaniah Madubuko Auditorium, marked a significant milestone in the academic journey of the fresh students. Addressing the inductees, Professor Ezenwa urged them to remain focused, disciplined, and intentional throughout their stay in the university. He cautioned against excessive nightlife, unhealthy social media engagement, and disregard for institutional regulations, while encouraging sincerity, vigilance, and dedication to good character and academic excellence.
The Dean emphasized that the induction ceremony provides an opportunity to consolidate the gains of matriculation and reaffirm the Faculty’s readiness to support students in achieving their academic and personal goals.

Chairman of the occasion and Anambra State Commissioner for Industry, Mr. Christian Udechukwu, described the event as a special moment of formal welcome and celebration. He encouraged the students to make effective use of the university library and to embrace the culture of service, discipline, and excellence that defines the academic community.

In her keynote address, Professor Uju Ezenekwe of the Department of Economics highlighted discipline, vision, and relationships as essential pillars for success. She advised the students to set clear goals, build strong character, develop relevant skills, and avoid negative influences. She stressed that integrity remains the foundation of effective leadership and urged them to begin building a solid foundation for their future.

Also speaking, the Academic Adviser, Dr. Ignatius Ngini, encouraged the students to build meaningful relationships and maintain positive networks that would support their academic and professional growth.

The President of the Faculty of Social Sciences Students Association (FOSSA), Mr. Obi Chukwebuka, welcomed the new students and urged them to remain courageous, disciplined, and committed to excellence.

A major highlight of the ceremony was the presentation of medals to the Faculty of Social Sciences team that emerged second overall at the Vice-Chancellor’s 2026 Cup Competition, winning 11 gold, 9 silver, and 11 bronze medals—an achievement that reflects the Faculty’s excellence in both academic and extracurricular engagements.

The ceremony attracted several dignitaries, Heads of Departments, staff, and students, while cultural performances by members of the Faculty’s “Nze na Ozo” group added colour and tradition to the event.

The Faculty of Social Sciences continues to demonstrate its commitment to excellence under the leadership of Professor Ezenwa, having previously organized innovative initiatives, including award ceremonies recognizing outstanding staff contributions.
