NNAMDI AZIKIWE UNIVERSITY INSTITUTIONAL REPOSITORY

The NAU Institutional Repository is a searchable online archive for collecting, preserving, and
disseminating digital copies of the intellectual output of our institution, allowing the faculty,
staff, and students to showcase their research and scholarly achievements. It provides an open
access platform to capture, store and distribute globally a wide range of research output,
including articles, conference papers, inaugural lectures, thesis, image collections and other
scholarly works.

NAU IR was established by the university management through the university library to achieve
vision 200 in supporting research activities and global visibility of our institution. The repository
is managed by the university library and utilizes DSPACE as its software. It currently hosts 540
papers and other works, and the repository materials have been downloaded severally, 400
authors have posted their work in the NAU IR. We solicit authors to upload their publications to
the IR. The steps to archiving will be forwarded to Unizik staff official emails.

Benefits to the university:
i. Showcasing the university’s scholarly footprint
ii. Increasing the visibility, reputation, and prestige of the university.
iii. Demonstrating the scientific, social, and economic relevance of the institution’s
research activities.
iv. Enhancing opportunities for communication and collaboration between individual
researchers, research teams; individual creative artists, and groups.
v. Acting as a route for the institution to take part in providing open access to scholarly
works

Benefits to individual Researchers: The benefits of depositing scholarly works to an open
repository are numerous.
i. Making research more visible on the web.
ii. Google Scholar automatically indexes articles deposited in institutional repositories
iii. Reaching a wider readership via free access to research.
iv. Achieving higher citation rates and impact.
v. Contributing to open access to research.
The repository shall accept submissions of the following types of materials:
i. Journal article.
ii. Theses and Dissertations.
iii. Learning Objects (past papers, lecture notes, and presentations).
iv. Conference and Workshop Proceedings.
v. Books and book chapters.
vi. Technical reports, commissioned reports, and other unrefereed research outputs.
vii. Bulletin/Newsletters of significant research groups.
viii. Inaugural Lectures
ix. Other materials produced by academic/research staff

The Institutional Repository can be accessed at https://repository.unizik.edu.ng and the
collections are growing by the day. The Repository is an archive of the university research output
and it shows the world what research is available. Feel welcome to utilize this valuable service
