Servicom Activities

  1. Publicity of Servicom Activities
Servicom as an organization is made public by Servicom officials through, distribution of handbills, posters and car stickers. The activities of Servicom is now a general knowledge to not only the University community but to the Awka community at large.
  2. Checking of Late Comers
Checking of late comers and staff who stay on the job appears to be the greatest function of SERVICOM in the University. Since punctuality is the soul of business, SERVICOM ensures prompt report to duty by staff as well as ensuring that they stay on their duty post to fast track service delivery.
  3. Mystery Shopping
In order to further ensure that staff are on their duty post, SERVICOM officers in UNIZIK often pay surprise visits to offices, especially the ones that attract high contact of persons/customers (e.g. Students Affairs, Exams and Records Unit).
  4. Investigation of Complaints
Through our complaints reception procedure (opinion boxes, publication of officer’s  phone numbers) Servicom tends to grapple with the numerous students and staff complaints arising from sexual harassment, intimidation and shoddy/shabby treatment meted to them. The Servicom office in UNIZIK does not take kindly to these and thus prompt action is taken to ensure that justice is done.
  5. One-on-One Sensitization
Through personal interactions with staff, students and the host communities, Servicom appears to bring closer to the clients the nitty-gritty of the activities of the department.
  6. Advise to Management
In most cases, Servicom advises the management on how best to tackle management policies, especially  in its “students-first philosophy” programme (which has yielded profound successes).
  7. Monitoring of Lectures
Considering that this is a very sensitive area, through contacts with various departmental class representatives, some academic staffs were appointed Servicom officers who monitor the activities of lecturers closely, especially in the areas of non-teaching of students, sorting/extorting money from students for courses etc. When such cases are reported, we move into an investigation to confirm or disclaim the allegations. In this area, Servicom has scored great success as some lecturers have been brought to book and some ill handed Departmental matters investigated and handled properly.
  8. Inspection of Hostels/Offices
To ensure that the students hostels are always clean, Servicom liaises with the porters at the hostels; cautions where necessary and makes formal report to the management for further action.
  9. Constitution of Servicom Committee
Servicom committee has been constituted, comprising Awka and Nnewi campuses under the chairmanship of the Deputy Vice-Chancellor Administration. The focal officer serves as the secretary of the committee. The committee has met twice since its inauguration and useful deliberation were reached especially in the area of good services delivery in the campuses. The committee was expanded to include Academic staff.
  10. Monitoring of Medical Personnel in the University’s Medical
    Centre
The Servicom Desk Officer in the Medical Centre uses the doctor’s duty Roasters prepared weekly by Director, Medical Services to monitor the punctuality and call to duty of the Doctors and Nurses in the Medical Centre.
  11. Face Lift of the Students’ Hostels
Through the effort of the Dean of Student’s Affairs, students’ hostels are being renovated for better and affordable accommodation for  students and tidiness of the environment.
  12. CEP Lectures and Examination Monitoring|
Servicom Unit now plays a vital role in both monitor of lectures and examination of students of Continue Education Programme (CEP) for proper conduct.
